Top 10 Books That Should Be Made into Video Games

1. The Dark Tower by Stephen King

I just finished this series and wow; this would be such a fun game. Going on the journey as Roland Deschain would be exhilarating. The twists and turns that the series takes would be fun to play out again. Realistically, you could put all the novels into one massive game or split it into a series. It would be a blast to play.

2. Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

This would be an interesting one. EA reimagined Dante Alighieri’s epic poem and made a great game out of out. I think this game could focus on dialogue tree and be story driven. Not all great games are full of action.

3. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

I don’t think that this game would have to follow Parzival’s plot at all. I think just having a game set inside the OASIS itself would be enough for hours of fun. This game could be many things, a hack and slash, racing and a sandbox.

4. Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I’m surprised this hasn’t already happened yet. Perhaps they’re too scared they might turn out like some of the Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings video game adaptations. In the gaming age of today, battle royale reigns supreme. This could be the base of this game.

5. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

I personally haven’t read this yet but just hearing Brandon Sanderson talk about it makes me want to give it a try. The gothic palette makes me think of Dishonored. Sanderson has already said he wants to work with CDPR on the adaptation. It seems at this point it is more likely than not that this book will be a video game in the future.

6. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

This one is with the kids in mind. Nowadays, fantasy books and gaming are full of antics not appropriate for children. This would make a good platformer or RPG for children. The appeal from the fantastical delights of The Land of Oz is too much to ignore.

7. Chasm City by Alastair Reynolds

The sour taste that the ending of Mass Effect left in the mouths of fans could be redeemed with a video game adaptation of this book. The aesthetic of Mass Effect would be there but then mix it with gameplay of Deus Ex and you have a great game.

8. Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss

I find the two books in the Kingkiller Chronicles to be some of the best fantasy that we have today. It would only make sense to have this as a video game as well. It has an amazing magic system and a world that would be fun to explore. This needs to happen.

9. The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien

This would never happen nor should it. With the upcoming release of the new Amazon series, fans are going to be drooling over the idea of another game set in Middle-Earth. There is so much source material in The Silmarillion they would be able to make something great. Again, it won’t happen but it’s fun to dream.

10. Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber

I noticed that I didn’t add any horror books to the list. This one always intrigued me as a Star Wars fan. This is truly a survival horror book that would make an exciting game set in the Star Wars universe. Dead Space is a great script to follow for this game.
